What does roadside assistance cover?
Roadside assistance is an optional add-on benefit available through many personal auto insurance policies. It generally covers towing to the nearest qualified repair facility up to a defined mileage limit, battery jump-starts for a dead battery, flat tire changes using your spare, emergency fuel delivery when you run out of gas, and lockout service when your keys are inside the vehicle. Some programs also cover winching if your car is stuck in mud, sand, or snow a short distance from the roadway. Coverage limits, service call caps per year, and any out-of-pocket costs differ from one policy to another, so reviewing your policy declarations page and benefits summary is the best way to understand exactly what your plan provides. Roadside assistance typically does not cover on-site mechanical repairs or parts.
