Does Alabama require a higher commercial auto minimum than personal auto?
It depends on how the vehicle is used. Alabama’s general minimum is 25/50/25, the same as personal auto, under Code of Alabama Sec. 32-7-6. But the Alabama Public Service Commission requires a higher 100/300/50 minimum specifically for intrastate for-hire property motor carriers, and vehicles crossing state lines for interstate commerce must separately meet federal FMCSA minimums of $750,000 to $5,000,000 depending on cargo. Which tier applies depends on what the vehicle actually does, not just who owns it.
