Do I need uninsured motorist coverage in Cherokee or Forsyth County?
Georgia law (O.C.G.A. Sec. 33-7-11) requires insurers to include uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage at the same limits as the policy's bodily injury liability, by default, unless the named insured rejects it in writing. It responds when the at-fault driver in an accident carries no insurance, or not enough to cover the loss.
Georgia carries one of the nation's higher uninsured-driver rates, which makes this coverage relevant well beyond the Cherokee-Forsyth corridor specifically - but it applies equally to drivers here, on rural roads with deer-strike risk and suburban commuter routes alike.
Example: A driver in Woodstock is rear-ended by a driver carrying no insurance. If UM/UIM coverage was never rejected in writing, it responds to the driver's own injury and repair costs that the at-fault driver cannot pay for.
